The Witches are Very Secretive!

 Hello everyone,

Today I'll be writing about The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. It's an adult fiction fantasy book that came out in August of last year so it's available to buy.

As soon as I saw this book on goodreads, I knew I had to read it! A little bit about the book:

The main character of this book is Mika Moon, she's a witch and there are others out there but they can never be together or talk to each other because it would draw too much attention to them. One of them being people who would harm or use them and the other, because magic in one place will cause chaos. When she lost her parents at a young age, she was raised by people she didn't know and always followed the rules set by Primrose, an ancient witch and head of their secret witch group of. She breaks one rule though, she posts "witchy videos" online which is a big no no.

Because of her videos though, she gets a weird message asking for help with 3 young witches who are coming into their power at a place called Nowhere House. Witches weren't supposed to be around each other for long periods of time though, otherwise their magic will be out of control. She's hesitant to go because it could be fake, and that's what she thinks until she gets there. As soon as she saw the girls she knew she had to help, even if it meant breaking the rules. She starts to teach the three young witches control, but also became involved with the lives of their caretakers; Lillian, a archaeologist who found them, Lucie the housekeeper, Ken the groundskeeper, Ian, a retired actor, and Jaime the librarian. Jaime is very protective over the children so when Mika moved in he saw her as a threat. A tempting threat.

As Mika settles in and starts to care for everyone around her, threats loom and she'll have to decide whether or not to protect this family she so willingly wanted to join..

                                                                 ***

Now, when I first started reading this, I was honestly expecting a long intro until it jumped into the good parts but everything picked up after a page or two, which I was really impressed by. Mika is such an interesting character, every witch has their own type of magic they excel in, her type is making magic brews and potions. She uses her skill to make videos but no one can tell it's actually real.

I loved what the caretakers put as their subject for the message,  "WITCH WANTED." Definitely unique and stands out from the rest of the messages. I absolutely love the characters in this book, they're all funny in their quirky ways, I caught myself laughing a few times throughout this book. A few scenes tugged on my heart strings as well. I love a book that can make you feel for the characters so well that you forget it's fiction. It's almost like you're living right there beside them.

I like the way the book transitions from scene to scene, it flows very nicely into what is being said and you don't lose any details. The book mainly focuses on the relationship/family building and training, but there is drama, suspense, and hilarious scenes- especially towards the end! I rate this book 5 stars, I highly recommend giving this book a chance! Comment down below what your favorite scene is of the book or let me know what I should read next, it can be fiction or nonfiction!
