Future Shock
Hello everyone, today I will be writing about Future Shock by Elizabeth Briggs. It's an adult sci-fi- action book published in April of 2016, it has three books in the series this one being the first.
I came across it at my local dollar tree, surprisingly, but you can find it on pretty much anywhere that sells books.
A little bit about the book;
The main character in this book is Elena Martinez, a foster kid who turns 18 soon and will be living on the streets unless she can find a job in time. She has a perfect memory, allowing her to recall anything she's ever read, seen, or done. She gets an unexpected offer from a group called Aether Corporation, without telling her the details of the job they offer her a lot of money that would allow her to get her own place to live and be comfortable for a long time. She's not the only one who was offered a job though.
When she goes to Aether to finish paperwork and do a medical exam she soon meets Adam, Chris, Trent, and Zoe who also was hired by Aether. She's surprised though because all of them except Adam are foster kids as well. They all discover that their mission is to go to the future and bring back data that Aether needs, that's all they need to do in order to get paid. They each have a skill set that is needed in order to complete the mission as well.
Something goes wrong though when they get to the future and so they break the one rule they were given- not to look themselves up in the future otherwise something bad will happen. Now they only have a few hours left in the future to figure out how to stop a murder that will happen as soon as they get back to the present. Elena has to figure out who she can trust in order to prevent bad things happening to them but changing fate has a deadly consequence.

I have to say, I'm not a big fan of future traveling books for a few reasons but this book blew my mind. To be completely honest, my expectations were low, but I'm so glad it turned out to be a great book. The description on the back is pretty vague about what happens in the book, so I wasn't sure if it would fit my style. The book doesn't start off slow, like I was expecting, instead it was moving at a semi-fast pace which I liked. Within the first few pages she was offered the job but before that it talks about her and how she ended up where she was which didn't take long.
I LOVED the interactions between the characters when they first met each other. They are all wary of each other, but try to get along for the sake of the mission. I don't mind that it was a different pace then what I'm used to reading, usually authors build up to the big thing but this author dove head first, which I love!
I can't really think of any part that I didn't like because I honestly liked the whole book, there was action, suspense, a tiny bit of romance, and mystery. There are some scenes in the book where I held my breath or got really sad for the characters, that's when you know you're totally invested haha.
I would love to make this review longer but I can't find my notes and I let someone borrow the book so once I can either find my notes or get the book I'll update this. Either way, I rate this book a 10/10 and I highly recommend this book if you like futuristic and action. I'll probably end up re-reading it at some point!
