Bone Weaver
It's been a while, I hope you all are doing well. Today's review will be about Bone Weaver by Aden Polydoros. This book is a stand alone YA high fantasy romance. The publication date is September 20, 2022.
A little about the book;
Seventeen-year-old Toma lives in the mountains with her adoptive family of the undead, far away from civilization. Unaware of the troubling conflict in the Kosa empire, she spends her days in the woods hunting or going through abandoned houses to find information on anything. Galina, Toma's adopted undead sister, comes home claiming there's an injured man that's just like her so they go to investigate. Toma meets Mikhail, the Tsar or king of Kosa who is badly wounded so the girls bring him to the house and Toma stitches up his wound.
In the heat of the moment, Galina takes off during a snowstorm and Toma tries to find her only to find her being captured by men. Mikhail and Toma team up to go find Toma in the vast world and Mikhail already knows who took her, Koschei. The man who took Mikhail's powers and tried to kill him to take over the empire. On their journey they meet Vanya, who helps them when his town is overrun with men with guns.
Vanya has his magic, Mikhail has his title, and Toma needs to find her power in time, in order to save Galina and the empire, or their lives will end by Koschei's hand.
****
This book was really good, the writing style is different compared to what I normally read which is nice because it acts as a refresher on reading. I don't know why but I felt like this book was going to be slow moving but it had a nice pace to it from world building to action and adventure. There were a few parts in the book where I thought something bad was going to happen or something does happen and the MC completely surprises me with something else.
Aden has a writing style that just sucked you in, as soon as I started reading I instantly connected with the MC and felt for her struggles and was happy with her accomplishments. I really wish there was a second book to this one because I would like to know what happens to Toma, Vanya, and Mikhail at the end of the book. If Aden ever puts out a second, I definitely will get it!
This is a type of book that you can re read, and still feel like you're there experiencing everything. When you re-read it, you obviously will know what's going to happen but stuff from the beginning of the book makes more sense.
I did get annoyed at one scene, (SPOILER ALERT) when Toma, Vanya, and Mikhail are on the train and Toma finds out that her sister is on the train, she rushes to save her. Which is understandable, anyone who would be in that situation would do the same. But after she's caught she fights the man guarding her sister. They end up outside of the train, due to being stopped, and fighting. A few details later, Vanya and Mikhail help Toma and drag her to the forest because Koschei arrives. She fights and struggles to get back to the train to save her sister but Vanya and Mikhail don't let her. I understand that they were just trying to help her not get caught but it still rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.
Overall though, this book was fantastic! I'm very glad I ended up getting it, I wasn't too sure about it at first but it turned out to be a good find!
