The Mime Order (some spoilers)
This review will be about The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon which was published January 27, 2015. It’s the second book to the The Bone Season Series. I’ve done a review for the first book and I decided to try out the second to see if it was any better. The listed genres on goodreads is; Fantasy, Dystopian, Young Adult, Adult, Romance, SciFi, and Urban Fantasy.
A little about the book:
Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London...
As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city's gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take center stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner.
Review with some spoilers:
I have to say, the second book is a lot better than the first as there is more character development, more action, and a little bit more romance. I was more hooked on the story than I was in the first book and I’m so glad I decided to read this one!
There are waaaay more action scenes that kept sucking me in to where I never wanted to put the book down, so much conflict that you couldn't help but start to worry for Paige and start to root her on. Her character development in this book is so much better! She finally starts to think for herself and fights back against her Mime Lord and others, without trying to make it obvious. But there are some scenes of her fighting others and I love that instead of having her win every altercation, she ends up losing some times, but thankfully still alive. Like I said in the first review, she’s not too soft yet not too bad ass as I think characters need to lose some battles in order to draw the readers in to root for the character.
The love interest, Warden. I was so confused on how he was able to get captured. In the first book, he’s supposedly super strong but was able to get taken down in the second? I know there has to be conflict there for him but it just didn’t make a whole lot of sense for that. But then again, it led to Paige being able to persuade Warden's comrades to count on her and back her up. They still hate her but now they have to rely on her. There are some “romance scenes” like kissing but nothing explicit. I like that it focuses more on the plot than the romance as sometimes there’s just too much romance and not enough action or plot so it’s a good change of pace.
As soon as Paige was crowned Mime Queen of all, and let Jax live, I knew that was a bad idea. I knew that something was going to happen and boy was I right. I won't spoil that for those of you who want to read the book as I don’t like to spoil too much. But you're in for a whirlwind!
This review is a bit short as I had nothing negative to report. I genuinely loved this book and couldn’t find anything negative about it, besides Warden being captured. I’m probably going to read the third book but I would like to know if I should post a review on that one as well, what do you think?
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars!
